Discriminatory policies, economic exploitation, and cultural repression against the Bengali-speaking population in East Pakistan led to mass discontent. This escalated when the West Pakistani military launched a brutal crackdown on March 25, 1971, resulting in widespread atrocities, including massacres and targeted violence against civilians. The crisis triggered a mass exodus of refugees into neighboring India and culminated in a war between India and Pakistan.
