What are the characteristics that a sports car should have? For a car to be considered sporty, nothing more is required than it is a two-door car, or that it has a very powerful engine. A sports vehicle must meet certain criteria to make it a good vehicle with a good performance in curves, acceleration, braking, etc. It is not enough just that it is a car with a very powerful engine, a clear example is a muscle car. True, they are very powerful and straight are possibly the best cars. But from my perspective they are not very well balanced in some areas of great importance: weight and agility in curves. Another quality or characteristic for driving purists is that the car is preferably a manual gearbox or that it has an automatic gearbox with driving cams, it can be a PDK, DSG, Tiptronic, etc. There are many very good automatic boxes, but the ideal for those who enjoy driving is a traditional manual box. Another feature in a sports car is to try to make the weight / power ratio optimal, this is achieved by reducing the weight to the maximum by removing all the "non-essential" in order to make the car lighter. There are some sports cars that take away the radio / sound system, air conditioning, door handles, etc. Due to the lower weight of the car, the power generated by the engine is magnified even more. For those who do not know what the Weight / Power ratio is, it is about dividing the total weight of the vehicle among the horsepower, and if the result gives us below 10 kg for each hp, it can be considered a "balanced" car , the lower this relationship, it will be reflected in the acceleration. There are vehicles like the Mazda MX5 that we use in this video that its power to weight ratio is only 5.85 kg per horsepower. It is not necessary to have a V8 engine with 400 horsepower to achieve this relationship, but to reduce weight and have an engine that fits that weight. Another characteristic of sports cars is its low center of gravity, all are very low vehicles and with rigid suspension, perhaps comfort and comfort in the city may be lost a little, but at high speeds it is essential that the suspension be rigid, especially when we use our car in curves at high speed. Another very important thing in a sports car is the traction, I do not mean that the front-wheel drive is bad (the clear example is the Honda Type R, one of my favorite cars) or that the rear-wheel drive (propulsion) is better than the all-wheel drive cars. I consider that there are very good cars of each of the different variants, as well as there are very bad cars respectively of each type of traction. But in a purist driving, it is more pleasant to carry a rear-wheel drive or propulsion vehicle. In sports driving of formula-type cars and many tourism cars, it is lawful to use rear-wheel drive. It requires a much finer handling and greater precision and expertise of the driver to be able to master it at pleasure, they are also much more fun to drive and allow among other things to do drift if the car is powerful. I hope that these driving tips and driving class on sports cars have been useful and have learned something new. Thanks for watching the video!
