🙏 The "Sargam" programme on Radio Ceylon, often associated with the "Golden Days" of Hindi film music, was a cherished weekly segment that played classic songs from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Here are key details regarding the legacy and context of these programs: Golden Era Focus: The programs frequently featured timeless, "Old is Gold" hits, often described as Sunheri Yaadein (Golden Memories). Significance: Along with iconic shows like Binaca Geetmala (which moved to Vividh Bharati in 1989), Radio Ceylon's Hindi service was a major source of Bollywood music across South Asia during its heyday. Atmosphere: Listeners often fondly remember the era for the high-quality, melodic songs of that time, with the "Sargam" segment being a staple for enthusiasts of Hindi film music. Modern Continuation: While the original Radio Ceylon era has passed, the name "Radio Sargam" continues to exist (e.g., in Fiji) as a platform dedicated to celebrating these old-school, classic hits.
