Tistaan 1 was written in 2003–04, during the final year of my college, when I was still living in that house. The song might never get released as I find it too naive and immature. But it captured who I was then. Tistaan 2 was written a year later, after I had moved out of Kolkata to work in Bangalore. Distance had already begun to change memory. That song was eventually released in 2012 as part of my first album Durbine Chokh Rakhbo Na (Label: SVF Music). Tistaan 3 was written in 2025. Over the years, life has become more competitive, more complicated & more conditional. We are loved when we win. We are forgotten when we lose. Somewhere between expectations and survival, we start missing the place where we didn’t have to prove ourselves. I often time-travel to my school and college days. Was I happier? Was I braver? Am I a better version of the person I was 25-30 years ago? Then comes the eternal question of existence. Is this life worth living? Is there an escape route? I don’t believe in heaven. I don’t believe in hell. I believe in Tistaan. “তিস্তান ৩” is about questioning who we’ve become — and longing for the place where we once felt like ourselves.
