Anupama Chopra reviews Toaster, the gleefully goofy Netflix morality tale directed by Vivek Daschaudary in his feature debut, with Patralekha marking her producing debut. Rajkummar Rao plays Ramakant, a miser of epic proportions who chases six-rupee refunds, steals biscuits from an orphanage, and considers children a "lifetime investment with zero returns." When an expensive toaster gifted at a wedding ends up back on the table after the ceremony is called off, Ramakant's desperate attempts to retrieve it spiral into a series of misadventures — lying, stealing, blackmail over a sexually explicit video, and a deliciously twisted dynamic with a neighbour who is nothing like she appears. Anupama highlights sharp writing by Anagh Mukherjee, Parveez Shaikh, and Akshat Ghildial (co-writer on Badhaai Ho and Badhaai Do), alongside a supporting cast in top form: Abhishek Banerjee as the confused, smoked-up neighbour; Seema Pahwa as the constipation-troubled landlord; Farah Khan as the greedy orphanage head; Upendra Limaye as a cop; and Archana Puran Singh as the scene-stealing Pherwani aunty. The film touches on mental illness, corrupt cops, and the sidelining of senior citizens — all without losing its lightness — and closes with a remix of the classic Husn Ke Lakhon Rang from Johny Mera Naam (1970). The second hour lags, but it's a solid debut. Watch Toaster on Netflix — and that is the THR bottomline. #Toaster #RajkummarRao #NetflixIndia #AnupamaChopra #BollywoodReview #Lykstage #LykstageVideo #LykstageCreator #LykstageCommunity
