Hyderabad’s ‘Visa Temple’ Dragged Into U.S. Senator’s Explosive H-1B Visa

Eric Schmitt has triggered controversy after targeting Chilkur Balaji Temple — popularly known as Hyderabad’s “Visa Temple” — during a sharp attack on the H-1B visa system. The Republican senator accused major tech firms of replacing American workers with cheaper foreign labour through what he described as a “global visa cartel.” Schmitt alleged overseas recruiters, shell companies and visa-dependent labour networks manipulated the system while referencing the famous temple visited by thousands of Indian IT professionals and students before U.S. visa interviews. The 500-year-old shrine has long symbolised aspirations tied to America’s technology sector and migration opportunities. The remarks have reignited debate over immigration, outsourcing, skilled foreign workers and the growing political scrutiny surrounding H-1B visas in the United States.
