The Trial of Marie-Joseph Angélique — The Ashes of Montreal

The Trial of Marie-Joseph Angélique explores one of 18th-century Canada's most haunting and overlooked stories — a Black enslaved woman accused of burning Montreal to the ground. This gripping documentary traces her life, her trial, and the lasting legacy she left behind, while historians uncover the deep social, political, and racial tensions that shaped early Canadian society. Through meticulous research and compelling storytelling, the film examines how systemic injustice silenced marginalised voices and how Angélique's story continues to resonate in conversations about race, slavery, and historical memory in Canada. A powerful exploration of resilience and the forgotten chapters of Canadian history. #MarieJosephAngelique #CanadianHistory #HistoricalDocumentary #MontrealHistory #BlackCanadianHistory #Lykstage #LykstageVideo #LykstageCreator #LykstageCommunity
