Catching MONSTER Tuna in Louisiana (182lbs)

Heading down to Venice, Louisiana—rightfully crowned the "Yellowfin Tuna Capital of the World"—for an offshore battle was an absolute masterclass in heavy-tackle sportfishing. In this video, we run miles out into the Gulf of Mexico to do absolute battle with a true apex ocean predator: a massive, rod-bending 182-pound Yellowfin Tuna. The offshore waters where the nutrient-rich Mississippi River current collides with the deep blue Gulf create the ultimate hunting ground. Navigating past the towering, deep-water oil rigs that dot the horizon, we marked giant arches holding deep on the electronics and got to work. When a fish of this caliber finally hits a live bait, the initial run is pure, adrenaline-fueled chaos—screaming reels, burning muscles, and an immediate realization that you are strapped into a test of pure endurance. Bringing a 182-pound "cow" tuna to the gaff is a chaotic team effort. From managing the boat's positioning against heavy swells to enduring a brutal, back-breaking tug-of-war in the final vertical death spiral, there is absolutely zero room for gear failure or a weak knot. But the absolute exhaustion instantly vanishes the second that massive, shimmering silver and neon-yellow powerhouse is hauled over the gunwale. We wrap up the expedition back at the docks with the ultimate catch-and-cook reward. From carving pristine, deep-red loin steaks right at the cleaning station to preparing the freshest, melt-in-your-mouth sashimi and seared ahi tuna steaks over an open fire, eating a trophy you rightfully earned in the deep blue is an unmatched culinary experience.
