Syria's Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus has sentenced Wassim Badi' al-Assad — cousin of ousted President Bashar al-Assad — to death in absentia, while a deadly fuel-tank explosion at the Baniyas thermal power station in Tartus province has killed three people. Wassim al-Assad was convicted across six court sessions on charges of forming and commanding armed groups that carried out mass killings, torture, drug trafficking, and the seizure of civilian property — all classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity. The court also ordered the confiscation of all his movable and immovable assets in favour of the state treasury and as compensation for victims. Meanwhile, in the coastal province of Tartus, three people lost their lives after a fuel tank exploded during routine maintenance work at the Baniyas thermal power station. The Tartus Health Directorate and local authorities confirmed the cause of the blast, adding that the incident was contained and that the station continues to operate and generate electricity normally. Both developments mark significant moments in Syria's ongoing judicial and infrastructure recovery following the fall of the Assad government. #SyriaNews #WassimAlAssad #TartusExplosion #SyriaJustice #Baniyas #Lykstage #LykstageVideo #LykstageCreator #LykstageCommunity
