A Damascus court has handed down a sweeping series of verdicts against Wasim Badi' al-Assad, with the death penalty topping a list of convictions for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus found him guilty of premeditated murder, deliberate harm with cruelty, and the torture of civilians — offences classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity that are not subject to a statute of limitations. In addition to the death sentence, the court imposed three years' imprisonment for intentional bodily harm resulting in permanent disability, and a further three years plus a financial fine for fraud following a reclassification of the charges. Invoking Article 204 of the Penal Code, the court merged all custodial sentences into the single harshest punishment — execution — while ordering the full cumulative enforcement of all financial penalties. The court also confirmed a pre-existing enforcement lien on all of al-Assad's movable and immovable assets, required him to pay civil compensation to victims, and ordered the seizure of remaining assets in favour of the state treasury. He was acquitted on drug trafficking and trade charges due to insufficient direct material evidence, though prosecutors retain the right to reopen that file should new evidence emerge. #WasimAlAssad #SyrianJustice #WarCrimesVerdict #DamascusCourt #SyriaNews #Lykstage #LykstageVideo #LykstageCreator #LykstageCommunity
