Dutch Colonial Slavery and the Role of Religious Orders | Familie tot slaaf gemaakt: hoe heilig waren de fraters?

This powerful Dutch documentary sheds critical light on a dark and long-silenced chapter of colonial history — the enslavement of families and the role played by religious orders, particularly the fraters. Drawing on historical archives, personal testimonies, and expert research, the film exposes how spiritual institutions were deeply entangled with systems of slavery and exploitation. The documentary confronts uncomfortable questions about guilt, atonement, and the myth of moral purity surrounding these religious institutes. By bringing historical facts face to face with the living legacy of the slavery past, it calls for justice, open public dialogue, and a reckoning with generations of stolen freedom. A necessary and confronting portrait urging awareness and remembrance. #DutchColonialHistory #SlaveryDocumentary #KolonialeGeschiedenis #Fraters #Slavernijverleden #Lykstage #LykstageVideo #LykstageCreator #LykstageCommunity
