THE NUN II, is a fictional gothic horror film set in 1952 Romania and part of [The Conjuring Universe] However, the movie draws loose inspiration from real-life paranormal claims and historical demonology. Real-Life Inspirations The Demon’s Name: The entity in the film is named Valak. In 17th-century occult grimoires like The Lesser Key of Solomon, Valac is recorded as a high president of hell. However, historical texts describe him as a small boy with angel wings riding a two-headed dragon—not a demonic nun. The Warrens' Experiences: The movie's director was inspired by paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren, who claimed she once encountered a swirling vortex of shadow with a hooded figure in her home. The Warrens also reported feeling the presence of a spectral nun during an investigation of the haunted Borley Rectory in England. "Frenchie": The character Maurice "Frenchie" Theriault is loosely named after a real-life French-Canadian-American man from Massachusetts whom the Warrens claimed to assist with an alleged demonic possession.
