https://www.youtube.com/@HistoryBlazed99?sub_confirmation=1 What happens when the government stops using nuclear bombs as weapons—and starts using them as shovels? In this video, we go inside Project Plowshare, a shocking Cold War-era program where America’s top physicists (the same ones who built the H-bomb) tried to reshape the world with nuclear explosives. From digging canals to blasting through mountain ranges for railroads, the scale of this project was as ambitious as it was dangerous. But the real story isn't just about the failed plans. It’s about the "Ghost Pits" left behind in Arctic Alaska. For 30 years, radioactive material sat in unmarked pits near an indigenous community that had no idea they were part of a secret experiment. This is the history of hubris, declassified secrets, and the hidden cost of the atomic age. 📚 Featured in this video: The Nuclear Canal: The 1959 plan to use 651 bombs to build a new Suez. Project Chariot: Why the government wanted to nuke a harbor in Alaska that would be frozen 9 months a year. The Sedan Test: What happened when a "peaceful" blast sent radioactive dust across four US states. The Unmarked Pits: The dark reality of the Point Hope experiments that sat hidden for three decades.
