What is ISRO? ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ And how does India's space agency explore space and use space technology to help people on Earth? In this educational video for kids, we'll discover the history of ISRO, its rockets and satellites, the Chandrayaan Moon missions, Mangalyaan's journey to Mars, Aditya-L1's study of the Sun, and India's human spaceflight programme. ๐ญ In This Video You'll Learn: ๐ฎ๐ณ What ISRO stands for ๐๏ธ When ISRO was established ๐งโ๐ Who Vikram Sarabhai was ๐ How ISRO launches rockets ๐ฐ๏ธ How satellites help people on Earth ๐ What the Chandrayaan missions discovered ๐ด What the Mangalyaan Mars mission achieved โ๏ธ How Aditya-L1 studies the Sun ๐งโ๐ What the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme is ๐ How ISRO supports weather forecasting, communication and navigation ๐ฌ How Indian scientists and engineers explore space ๐ฎ๐ณ What Is ISRO? ISRO stands for the Indian Space Research Organisation. It is India's national space agency and operates under the Department of Space, Government of India. ISRO was established on August 15, 1969, building on the earlier Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), which was set up in 1962. Its headquarters are in Bengaluru, Karnataka. ISRO develops rockets, satellites and space technologies for scientific research, exploration and practical applications that benefit people. ๐ฌ๐ฐ๏ธ ๐ ISRO's Rockets How do satellites get into space? They need powerful rockets! ISRO has developed several launch vehicles, including: ๐ PSLV โ the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, widely used to launch satellites into orbit. ๐ GSLV โ the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, designed to carry satellites toward geosynchronous transfer orbits. ๐ฅ LVM3 โ a powerful launch vehicle used for heavy payloads and selected for India's Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme. These rockets help carry satellites and spacecraft from Earth into space. ๐ Chandrayaan โ India's Moon Missions Chandrayaan is ISRO's lunar exploration programme. ๐ Chandrayaan-1 โ launched in 2008, it helped provide important evidence of water-related molecules on the Moon. ๐ Chandrayaan-2 โ launched in 2019, it included an orbiter, lander and rover. Its lander did not achieve a successful soft landing, but the orbiter continued its scientific work. ๐ Chandrayaan-3 โ in August 2023, its Vikram lander made a successful soft landing on the Moon, and the Pragyan rover carried out surface experiments. Chandrayaan-3's landing made India the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon. ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ ๐ด Mangalyaan โ India's Mars Mission Mangalyaan, officially the Mars Orbiter Mission, was India's first interplanetary mission. Launched in November 2013, it entered Mars orbit in September 2014. The mission studied Mars using scientific instruments and demonstrated India's ability to send a spacecraft to another planet. It was an important milestone in India's space exploration journey. ๐ด๐ โ๏ธ Aditya-L1 โ Studying the Sun The Sun is our nearest star, and understanding it helps scientists study space weather. Aditya-L1 is India's first dedicated space-based solar observatory. It was launched in September 2023 and reached its halo orbit around the SunโEarth L1 point in January 2024. From this location, it can observe the Sun and investigate features such as its outer atmosphere, solar flares and coronal mass ejections. โ๏ธ๐ญ ๐ฐ๏ธ How ISRO's Satellites Help Us ISRO's work isn't only about exploring distant worlds. Satellites also support everyday life on Earth! ๐ก Communication: Helps support television, telecommunications and data services. ๐ฆ๏ธ Weather forecasting: Satellite observations help monitor clouds, storms and atmospheric conditions. ๐พ Earth observation: Satellites help study agriculture, forests, water resources and natural disasters. ๐งญ Navigation: India's satellite navigation systems help provide positioning and timing services. ๐ Environmental monitoring: Space-based observations help scientists study changes on our planet. ๐งโ๐ Gaganyaan โ India's Human Spaceflight Programme Gaganyaan is India's programme to develop the capability to send Indian astronauts into space aboard an Indian human-rated spacecraft. The programme involves developing systems for: ๐ Human-rated launch vehicles ๐งโ๐ Astronaut safety ๐ก๏ธ Crew escape and emergency systems ๐ Returning the crew safely to Earth ๐ฌ Experiments in space Gaganyaan is a major step in India's human spaceflight plans. The programme includes preparatory and uncrewed test missions before crewed flights. ๐ The Big Idea Rockets โ Satellites โ Moon โ Mars โ Sun โ Human Spaceflight ISRO combines science, engineering and technology to explore space and support life on Earth. From studying the Moon and Sun to building satellites and preparing for human spaceflight, India's space programme continues to expand our understanding of the universe. ๐ฎ๐ณ๐๐ Perfect for: ๐ Kids ages 8โ14 ๐ฎ๐ณ Indian Space Exploration ๐ Rocket Science ๐ Moon & Chandrayaan Learning ๐ด Mars & Mangalyaan
