Hitachi Energy's $479M Transformer Plant Coming to London, Ontario

Hitachi Energy is investing $479 million to build Canada's first transformer pressboard production plant in London, Ontario, backed by $50 million in government funding. The advanced manufacturing facility, set to rise near Huron Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway, will establish a critical domestic supply chain for transformer insulation and help meet surging North American power demands. More than 100 permanent skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs will be created across southwestern Ontario as a result. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2028, strengthening regional power infrastructure and securing energy supply chains against ongoing global shortages.
