BANGLADESH Rohingya Refugees Flee to Bangladesh Amid New Attacks Mustafa Kamal, a 45-year-old Rohingya refugee, and his family narrowly escaped an assault by the Arakan Army, a powerful ethnic militia, on their town in western Myanmar. As the violence escalated, the family fled to Bangladesh, where nearly a million Rohingya refugees are already sheltering near the southeast coast city of Cox's Bazar. The Arakan Army, which recruits from Myanmar’s Buddhist majority, launched a brutal attack on Kamal's town, forcing many, including Kamal and his family, to swim to a small island for refuge. Tragically, Kamal's nephew was killed during the assault. The growing number of refugees is straining Bangladesh's resources, leading local leaders to urge for better registration and international assistance. Bangladesh’s de-facto foreign minister, Mohammad Touhid Hossain, has called on neighbouring countries like India to do more, stressing that Bangladesh can no longer bear the burden alone. This recent wave of violence marks the most significant surge of attacks against the Rohingya. --- Rohingya | Refugees | Bangladesh | Attacks | Firstpost | News Live | World News | Latest News | Global News | International News | News | Trending News #rohingya #bangladesh #attack #firstpost #newslive #worldnews #latestnews #globalnews #news #internationalnews #trendingnews Firstpost is an Indian news and media website.
