The Best of Car Technology Art Astors 20th Century Automobile Art Collection_

In his life Art Astor collected 275 cars, more than 1,000 radios and glass cases jam-packed with microphones. This video showcases the remainder of his collection. There is a introductory speech by curator and lead restoration expert Tony Martinez that describes the process of re-organizing and reacquiring the collection and bringing it to it’s current location. He owned the cars of the stars – Tom Mix’s 1926 Rolls Royce, Rita Hayworth’s 1941 Lincoln, John Wayne’s 1951 Chevrolet convertible. Elvis crooned into his microphones. The battles of world wars aired on his radios. After his passing, the city of Cerritos bought the entire collection with the intention of creating a cultural and historical museum, which never materialized. So the entire collection went up for auction and it was bought back, in it’s entirety and placed into a private warehouse in Cerritos, California.
