Add the instant yeast and the granulated sugar to the lukewarm milk. Sprinkle a little flour on top and let it sit covered for 5-8 minutes. Sift the flour in a bowl and add salt, powdered sugar, egg yolks, and whipping cream. Slowly add the milk with the risen yeast. When the ingredients start to form a ball add the melted butter. Knead it until the dough absorbs the butter completely. Put the dough in a floured surface and knead it for one more minute. Transfer into a floured bowl, cover with a kitchen towel and let it sit until it doubles in size. While the dough is resting, combine the poppy seed filling. Once the dough has risen, put it on a floured surface. Cut the dough in six, and form 6 balls. We are going to make two loaves of kalács. Cover the balls with a kitchen towel and let them rest for 10 minutes. With a rolling pin roll out the first piece of dough into a rectangle (14x6 inches, 35×15 cm). Spread 1/6 of the poppy seed filling in a one-inch-wide row alongside one of the longer edges. Roll up the dough and cover with a kitchen towel. Repeat these steps with the other balls. Sprinkle the rolls with flour. With a soaked hand pinch the end of the ropes together and braid them as you see it in the video. Transfer the kalács into a loaf pan ( 5.5x11 inch). Brush with the egg right away and let it rest covered for an additional 30 minutes. After resting brush it again with egg; this will give a beautiful glow to the kalács. Bake it in a preheated 355 °F (180 °C) oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the color turns dark golden brown. Let it cool down on the wire rack before slicing.
