Kathmandu - A complete tour guide. During my recent tour of Kathmandu, my first stop was the Nepal Tourism Board. I obtained a permit for Muktinath or Lower Mustang within a swift two minutes—an impressively efficient process. With the permit, I went to the bustling Ranjana Market, renowned for its affordable imported clothing. I opted to walk from the Nepal Tourism Board to Ranjana Market, taking in the sights along the way. One highlight was spotting the iconic Dharahara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, standing tall as a reminder of Kathmandu's resilience and history. After exploring the Ranjana Shopping Complex and its unique variety of goods, I strolled through the famous Thamel Market as evening set in. Thamel, known for its vibrant energy, is a haven for travelers, filled with handicrafts, souvenirs, eateries, and live music. The energy of the place is infectious, especially at night when it truly comes alive. The next morning, I set out early for Swayambhunath, also known as the "Monkey Temple" for the curious primates that roam its grounds. On the way, I absorbed the sights and sounds of Kathmandu's morning hustle and got a feel for its distinct culture. Swayambhunath, with its serene stupa and sweeping views of the Kathmandu Valley, provided a peaceful start to the day. Following Swayambhunath, I headed to Patan Durbar Square, where I encountered ancient Nepalese architecture and exquisite sculptures that seemed to narrate centuries of history. Patan Durbar Square is a true architectural marvel, showcasing the intricacies of Newari craftsmanship in every detail of its temples and courtyards. In the late afternoon, I made my way to Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu sites in the world. Witnessing the Hindu rituals and observing the spiritual activities along the banks of the Bagmati River was a profoundly moving experience. Spending some time here in quiet reflection allowed me to fully appreciate the sanctity and beauty of this place.
