Exploring Muktinath & Jomsom After reaching Muktinath, I planned to visit the famous Muktinath Temple early the next morning. Despite the chilly morning, the weather was foggy, meaning the mountain peaks remained hidden behind a thick veil of mist, adding a mystical aura to the surroundings. The temple itself sits high up in the mountains, requiring over 300 steps to reach. I started early and reached the temple, finding the atmosphere peaceful and almost ethereal in the fog. Muktinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Vasudeva), a significant pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple's unique feature is its 108 sacred water spouts (dhara) where devotees bathe as part of their purification ritual before offering prayers inside. Though I couldn’t see the surrounding peaks, the experience within the temple courtyard was beautiful and deeply spiritual. Nearby, I visited the serene statue of Buddha, set against the misty backdrop that enhanced its tranquil presence. After returning to the hotel, I discovered that our bus to Pokhara had left without me and three other passengers. So, we quickly checked out and hired a taxi to Jomsom. Upon arrival, we learned that the last bus to Pokhara had already departed, so we arranged to stay overnight. We shared two rooms, each costing 1000 NPR. Later in the day, a fellow passenger and I explored Jomsom. The fog had cleared, revealing stunning views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains, with the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges now visible. Nestled in the Mustang Valley, the town has a charming traditional village feel, with stone houses, narrow pathways, and colorful prayer flags fluttering above. The atmosphere was serene, and the rugged landscape provided a perfect backdrop for exploring this peaceful Himalayan town. Returning to the hotel, we had dinner a traditional Nepali Thakali meal, which cost 500 NPR per plate. Though the flavors were modest, the warmth and authenticity of the meal were satisfying, especially after the day's explorations. The next morning, we boarded the bus from Jomsom to Pokhara. Thankfully, we had pre-purchased our tickets on arrival the day before. The journey was challenging, as the rough roads and mountainous terrain made for a bumpy ride, but the dramatic landscape made it worthwhile.
